This may or may not be jazz. Trance jazz if there is such a thing. The organ plays the same chord for most of this song and it definitely takes the listener to a different place than most of the jazz you normally hear.
The Loneliest Immortal
This is just drums and saxophone. The tom of the drums is tuned to a pitch and sounds a bit like a Native American drum. I don’t think jazz is the correct way to describe this song, aboriginal jazz?
After the bare bones stripped down sax and drum song before, this song sounds like a full orchestra. Bowed double bass and overdubbed saxophones provide a full almost classical sound, very upbeat and positive, but tender and full of feeling and beauty. The drums played with brushes is the base on which this unconventional orchestra is played upon. Unique, yes truly, this song is it’s own genre. You could almost call it new agey, but these are musicians playing real instruments, not keyboards or synthesizers.
Tears For Marseilles
Double bass, drums with brushes and alto saxophone again with violin playing harmonies with the sax. This is a very emotional and melancholic song, full of tenderness and feeling.
