8/12/03. Depot Park, Kalispell, MT
The magic wasn't here tonight which was a surprise, because it was there in Sandpoint. People in the audience still seemed to enjoy it, which is always a surprise as well when you're not feeling it onstage. It was still a fun evening, just not the amazing evening we were hoping for/expecting.

8/9/03. The Bohemian Bar, Clarkston, WA
CANCELLED SHOW: I apologize once again for cancelling, I hate to do it, but I didn't think our van would make it and I'm pretty sure it would've been a nightmare breaking down. It turns out that Big Thunder, our van, is now officially out of service. One of the motor mounts broke and that is what was causing weird vibrations and clutch failure, u joint failure etc etc. Right now, he is stuck at home in reverse, and I think I'm gonna just have him hauled away (pause to wipe my eyes and blow my nose) which is hard because he was a good friend for the last few years.

8/8/03. Eichardt's, Sandpoint, ID
This was a great night for music. We only had to drive an hour from last night, so there was no stress and no rushing to make it on time which makes it hard to get into a musical space later. We saw a wreck on the highway with people lying bloody in the road, a reminder of how quickly life can be taken away from you. The bar here was nowhere near as loud as last night and people were way more responsive tonight. It was a lot of fun. And thanks to Scott for being so cool and taking us out on his boat the next day on the huge lake here. We felt like we were in the Florida Keys at one point and then the Greek islands at another point. A good time.

8/7/03. The Moontime, Coeur d'Alene, ID
The first night of a short tour with Tim on bass and Toby on drums. A very educational little tour for me on what it takes to keep things rolling and people transported and housed and fed and still be able to get loose and make music. It was super loud in here tonight, I think it was dollar beer night and lots of very drunk very loud college girls competing with the band, but it was a fun evening.

7/14/03. The Eureka Book CO, Eureka, MT
A bit of a strange night for me here. I love playing at the bookstore in Eureka. I kinda felt a little too comfortable, though, and made some semi-political comments that didn't go over too well with the majority of the people here this evening. Also, it was really hot and dry so my saxophone reed dried up and I didn't really play it very much. So the magic wasn't here tonight and I'm tired of expressing my anti-war and anti-police state feelings to conservative people with very different points of view. I am ever closer to not mixing my political beliefs with my music, but then again that may just be impossible...

7/12/03. The Flathead Freshwater Festival, Kalispell, MT
A super hot day today but a nice setting by Flathead Lake. This was more of a soundman gig, but I got to play a little bit as well, which was nice. There were some good acts here today, I particularily liked Keith Greeniger and Dayan Quai, probably spelled wrong, but they were really good.

6/27/03. The Daily Grind, Pullman, WA.
Another great night at the Daily Grind, saw some familiar faces, something that is always nice. I also met a man who was in so many ways just like another friend I have. It was like my friend was hiding in this man's body, speaking through him. They had the same manner of speaking, a deep interest in at least one shared subject, even the same kind of look in the eyes. I have read that there are only a few types of people in the world, like under ten. I wonder more and more, as I spend more time on this planet, if there is truth to that. Meeting this guy tonight makes me wonder...

6/26/03. The Shop, Spokane, WA.
Not a huge turnout tonight, but I love this place anyway. I definitely want to play here again. We got to spend the rest of the evening drinking giant beers and eating bean dip, chips and tacos and then, the next day, watching two kids play slip and slide. It was hot. As I was watching one of them direct his father to put more water here, and then get out of the way, I wondered what a city would be like if it was constructed by children. Adults could do the physical labour, but the children would design it and then tell the adults what to do, and how to do it. I wonder if that has been done anywhere? I think it is time.

6/14/03. The Belton Chalet, Glacier Park, MT.
Good to be back here again, this is one of those places that feels like a sort of home away from home. Some places you want to just finish what you came there to do and then get the hell out...not here, though. Nope, Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it is right next to Glacier Park, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Whatever the reason, it was a fun night and I look forward to the next time.
